3 Ways To Get Started! ››

Florists and Flower Shops

All flowers are beautiful and every florist has a unique way of improving upon that natural beauty.
Do you have a special way of distinguishing yourself from you competitors? Exotic flowers, contemporary compositions, gourmet gifts.

At On-Hold Marketing and Communications, we will meet with you in person
and work to create a script for your on hold message that speaks
to your individual creativity in floral design.

Here are some important things to think about when designing your on hold marketing campaign:

Is there something you do especially well that you can bring to the attention of your callers?

  • Rare Flowers
  • Avant-garde design
  • Special Events

Flowers and celebrations go hand and hand. Be sure to tell callers not only about the beautiful arrangements you can provide, but also talk about the quality, convenience and customer service that will make their special event less stressful and more elegant. Promote what you offer for:

  • Weddings
  • Showers
  • Corporate Events
  • Private Parties

Update your on hold message throughout the year to get the most out of seasonal opportunities to promote plants, flowers and centerpieces. Be sure to target the following:

  • Mother’s Day
  • Valentine’s Day
  • Thanksgiving
  • Winter Holidays

Seeing is believing. Direct your on hold customers to your website and then let it work for you. For many potential customers, it will be their first stop before visiting your shop.
Tell them what they can find on your website:

  • Photos of Bouquets and Arrangements
  • Holiday and Seasonal offerings
  • Specials
  • 24-hour on-line ordering
  • Link to Facebook

Flowers are used to express a variety of sentiments. Emphasize how your knowledgeable staff can work with them to accommodate their most personal needs for floral arrangements.
Do your services include:

  • Get well Arrangements
  • Hand delivery to Hospitals
  • Worldwide Delivery options
  • Sympathy Baskets and Funeral displays

Extras are important. Someone calling about flowers may not be aware that you also offer the following products and services:

  • Gourmet Baskets
  • Chocolate or Fruits
  • Silk or Dried Flowers
  • Balloons
  • Corporate Landscaping
  • Weekly Maintenance for Home and Business

Your on hold message also will provide basic information, including:

  • Location, with landmarks, if necessary
  • Hours of operation
  • Delivery and Ordering information

Seasonal Marketing Calendar Tips

Please note that the chart below contains calendar specific talking points and ideas. The best results will come when you complete your person to person interview with an On Hold Marketing consultant. You may also change your message more frequently if it better meets your marketing needs. We will take the work off your desk!

Beginning Jan 1

Happy New Year! Valentines Day Promotions, St. Patty’s Day, Secretary’s Day and more. Are you doing any special winter promotions with seasonally appropriate arrangements? Do you offer Corporate Landscaping--start the year off right with a floral maintenance program that brightens your office and cheers your staff. What type of winter-specific florals do you offer? There are many newly engaged couples in the world. Promote the fact that you do weddings and can’t wait to meet the happy couple.

Beginning April 1

Now is a good time to encourage placement of Easter, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day orders. Remind your callers that you make every celebration special from weddings to showers, graduations to communions and all types of memorable celebrations. Do you offer outdoor landscaping at any level?

mid June/early July

Summer flowers! There is nothing more beautiful than summer arrangements. Be sure to use your On Hold message to talk about the beautiful flowers that you artfully arrange throughout the summer. This is also a good time to pitch any corporate programs you have. Many companies are "slower" during the summer and will take time to look into programs like corporate landscaping.

early September

Now is the time to place holiday orders, especially orders with over 100 recipients. You may want to offer a discount on holiday orders placed before a certain date. Do you offer customized gifts? Let your callers know..they may be calling an ad specialty company for an item that you could provide with more care and more flair! Encourage callers to place their orders for Thanksgiving, Christmas and all holiday centerpieces.

Please keep in mind that the aforementioned tips are meant to be a guide.
Every florist is completely different and everything from your neighborhood to weather to the owners
very unique vision will profoundly effect the outcome of the script.
